Surah Al-Asr

Assalamu’alaikum wbt guys,

Yesterday I went to MMU’s Surau for Friday prayers. There, the khutbah was
presented by a lecturer, who I presumed by accent, is an American. The title of
the khutbah was "The surah Al-Asr", I find it very interesting and I’d like to share
it with you guys.

The
khateeb begin by reciting the sura. The surah Al-Asr (The Time) which
consist of 3 ayat, the khateeb stressed on the last portion of the ayat,

tawaasau bilhaqq Wa tawaasau bis sabr

The
khateeb said "Each and everyone of you have a circle of influence. And
we are responsible for those in it. For the sake of Allah, brotherhood
and sisterhood in Islam".

He took an example of an MMU student,
and MMU student circle’s of influence is small, 2 or 3 of his/her good
friend is good enough. And he will not be accounted for anyone beyond
his/her circle of influence. As time passes by and we grew older, the
circle of influence will grow as well. This might include your
wife/husband, children, and insya-Allah, grand-children.

If
you see one of the people within your circle of influence is disobeying
Allah, you must tell him. And yes, most  people will take it as "not my
problem". But for the sake of Allah, friendship, brotherhood and
sisterhood in Islam, we must. Start with the people within your circle
of influence, if you do it to the strangers, the chances are, you’ll be
ignored. You are not responsible and will not be accounted  for things
beyond your capacity, that’s the beauty of Allah’s judgment.

The
khateeb took an example of 5 times prayers. If you see someone within
your circle of influence is not praying 5 times a day, then you must
tell him/her that it is wrong. Tell him on Monday, on Tuesday he did it
again, tell him on Wednesday, on Thursday he did it again, tell him on
Friday, on Saturday he did it again and so on. And don’t stop until he
changes. That’s the meaning of

tawaasau bilhaqq Wa tawaasau bis sabr

If
he refuses, tell him that you don’t want to be his friend anymore, do
you want to  be associated to someone who disobeys Allah? How would you
answer it in front of Allah on the Day of Judgment?

The khateeb gave 2 simple hadeeth from Prophet Muhammad SAW.

"The difference between a muslim and a kaafir, is abandoning prayers"

For general,

On
the Day of Judgement, all my followers will enter Paradise, except
those who refuse to enter it. The sahabat ask "Who refuses to enter
Paradise, O Prophet of Allah?", The Prophet replied "Those who refuse
to obey Allah and me"

The khateeb mentioned that the
social ills and the weak strength of  muslim community  is  due to the
fact that, muslims only understand the sura Al-Asr up to the part

Illal ladhenna aamannu Wa ‘amilus saalihaat

and
forgot the remaining part. The previous muslims are strong because they
reminded each other of the Haq, and with patience and consistency.

The
khutbah made some impact in me, and I verily hope that this email would
be useful to anyone who needs it and hope that, this email will reach
out far, beyond.
